Description
Located in Washington State, USA, this paragliding site offers a takeoff elevation of 1200 meters with a height difference of 1050 meters. The site is occasionally used and is suitable for hike & fly, thermal soaring, scenic flights, and small cross-country flights. The site record is 7.0 km.
The takeoff location is known as 'the bench' at the base of 'the haystack'. The terrain includes loose rock, small bushes, and some trees, making it a bit challenging to navigate. The Old Si trail is recommended for the hike, which is approximately 3.3 miles with a 3500 ft elevation gain, taking around 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Launching can be difficult due to the steep and rocky terrain, which makes it hard to run and increases the risk of tangling lines. Wind conditions are often minimal, complicating normal reverse launches. Assistance is recommended for managing the wing and brake lines.
For landing, North Bend offers a few options. Tanner Landing Park is a popular choice due to its proximity to the trailhead.
