Description
Located near Lucca in the Tuscany region of Italy, this paragliding site is situated in a side valley that connects to the main valley leading from Lucca to Abetone. To reach the takeoff point, follow the signs toward Cune from the main road. After passing Cune, the trail turns into a gravel/dirt road. Park near a small dry pond and follow the uphill trail past the 'proprieta privata' sign. The takeoff is a 5-minute walk from the parking area. The landing area is just before you make the turn toward Cune if you are coming from Lucca. Take a right turn and follow the signs for 'Campo Sportiva'. This site is ideal for soaring and thermal flights, with an elevation of 800 meters above sea level and a height difference of 670 meters from the landing area. It is suitable for beginners and, during certain hours, also for advanced pilots. The landing area is large and safe. For accommodation, there are nearby bed and breakfast options at reasonable prices. The meeting point for landing is at Diecimo. Follow the signs for the sports field near the Serchio River. The takeoff is at Monte Bargiglio, 800 meters above sea level. Follow the signs for Cune. From the landing area, return to the provincial road and continue towards Borgo a Mozzano. At the intersection, turn left, proceed towards Cune, and then towards Monte Bargiglio. After the paved road ends, continue for a few hundred meters on the dirt road. Follow the trail for a 10-minute walk. In winter, the last part of the paved road may be icy or snowy in shaded areas. The takeoff faces south, and the valley breeze usually counteracts moderate northern winds, allowing flights even when weather conditions are unfavorable elsewhere. Be cautious of rocks at the takeoff area to avoid damaging your lines. Local pilots often prefer reverse takeoff. Top landing is possible next to the takeoff area but is recommended only for experienced pilots. Be aware of rotors behind the ridge, potential gusts, and the thermal service area just outside the takeoff. The entry window has been widened last winter. Do not fly over the model airplane runway marked in red on the map; it is only for emergency landings. To maintain good relations with other users and local residents, do not leave trash at the takeoff or landing areas. Drive slowly through the village of Cune. During wild boar hunting season, the takeoff and ridge are shared with hunters.
