Description
Takeoff is at an altitude of 1275 meters above ground level, with orientations to the south and southwest. The site is located near Loarre Castle in the Huesca region of Spain. The takeoff area is accessible via a forest trail that turns left just before reaching the castle. This trail can be navigated with a regular car, though caution is needed to avoid potholes.
Landing options include fields near Loarre Castle at an altitude of 820 meters above ground level. There are two fields near the camping area: a smaller one and a larger one near a kids' playground. Both landing zones are adjacent to the road leading to the takeoff point. Additionally, there's a large field near the top that allows for easy top-landing, provided you can gain enough altitude above the takeoff.
From Huesca, take the A-132 to Ayerbe. After passing the Esqueda gas station, turn right onto the A-1206 towards Loarre. Near Loarre, turn right towards Loarre Castle. Upon reaching the flatlands in front of the castle, turn left uphill to reach the takeoff area.
The site offers stunning views of Loarre Castle. When conditions are favorable, thermals form above the castle, providing spectacular views and excellent cross-country (XC) flying opportunities across the mountain range. You can fly west towards the impressive 'Mallos de Riglos' rock formations or east towards Guara.
Be cautious of weather conditions, especially when the wind is from the north, as flying is not possible under these conditions. Inspect the landing zone first, as it is relatively small, though there are larger fields nearby. Be mindful of power lines, particularly below the castle.
