Parapente Lake Michigan Empire Bluff Sleeping Bear Dunes, MI

Located in Michigan, USA, this paragliding site is occasionally used for dune soaring. The site features a coastal bluff along the east coast of Lake Michigan, near the charming village of Empire. The launch area is set at a height of 400 feet, offering scenic views and is soarable in winds of 6-8 mph from a direction of 320 degrees (NW-N). The designated landing zone (LZ) is the public beach at Lake Michigan, near the town of Empire, which is about a mile away. There is also a top landing option over the back in farming fields, but be cautious of rotor. It is strongly advised not to fly alone here. To reach the site, start from Traverse City and take M-72 to Empire. From there, head left (south) for about a mile to the top of a large hill. Turn right (west) onto Wilco Road and continue for about one city block. You will find the trail entrance and parking on the left. A 3/4 mile hike will take you to the launch area on top of the ridge overlooking Lake Michigan. For more information, you can visit the Green Point Flyers Association website.
