Description

Located at an altitude of 1765 meters with a height difference of 706 meters, this paragliding site is directly accessible from the mountain station but is only occasionally used. The site offers a slight elevation gain, making it easier to catch thermal lifts. For hang gliders, there is a ramp available, which was completely renewed in 2017. The area is beautiful, relatively simple, and easy to navigate. It is frequently flown but not overcrowded, making it a good spot for cross-country flights. Region: Bach im Lechtal, Austria. The site record is 311.7 km. The terrain in Lechtal is thermally interesting. The local paragliding school, Airsport, is located directly at Landing Zone 2. Note that the distance from the landing zone to the valley station of the cable car is over 2 km uphill. It is advisable to organize a shuttle service or inquire at the flight school. There is a year-round bus connection available. See [ÖBB Bus Schedule](http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/dn?L=vs_postbus). The flight school also maintains a shuttle service. The area is not overcrowded, with large, safe landing meadows. It is suitable for flying in different wind conditions and allows for high altitudes (cloud base over 4000 MSL). The wind direction ranges from west to east. Season: The Jöchelspitze is located on the north side of the Lechtal (south slope). The launch site is located two-thirds up the peak, protecting it from the Bavarian north wind for a long time. Special Features: The site is thermally active almost year-round, with a high base often exceeding 3000 meters. It is particularly excellent in late winter (February, March), where on good days, you can reach 3000 meters. There are no start or landing fees, and no toll fees for access. The cable car provides easy access to the site. Suitability: The site is approved for training and is easy, making it suitable for beginners. It is not overcrowded, has large, safe landing meadows, and allows for training in different wind conditions. High altitudes are possible (cloud base over 4000 MSL), and it is thermally favorable even in autumn. The ascent is comfortable with the double chairlift. Height differences range from 750 to 1200 meters. Launch Directions: South, Southwest, West; dangerous with North winds. There are three launch sites: the hang glider ramp next to the mountain restaurant, facing west; and three meadows at different heights for southern directions, all considered easy. Landing Zone: The large landing meadow is located at the western end of Bach, near the football field. However, be cautious of strong and gusty valley winds, which can be dangerous. The wind direction varies throughout the day but usually blows up the valley. Cross-Country Flights: Bach is a hotspot for cross-country flying. The inner alpine location and proximity to the Inn Valley offer an almost inexhaustible kilometer potential. However, strong thermals, complex wind systems, and the strong valley wind require caution. For more information, visit [Jöchelspitze Paragliding](http://www.joechelspitze.at/paragliding.html) and [On Air Paragliding](http://www.onair-paragliding.com/). The site is excellent for beginners in cross-country flying, with the best conditions from February to June. It is rarely crowded, providing plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. The area is known for its strong thermals, especially on the south side of Klimmspitze. The site is ideal for cross-country beginners, with large base heights and strong thermals. It is good in weak wind conditions but can be very turbulent otherwise. The north-east valley wind can disrupt thermals in summer. From early afternoon, the 'Bavarian Wind' from the north of the Oberstdorf Valley becomes noticeable, causing flights to be in the lee. Otherwise, the high base ensures consistently good thermals. Difficulty: Foehn conditions and the north-east valley wind can be disruptive. The only significantly disturbing wind comes from the northwest and north. The cable car cables must be overflown with at least a 50-meter height difference. Soaring Conditions: Along the south-facing slopes of the Lechtal. In the evening, it is also possible to cross to Sonnenkogel and soar on the west slope until dusk. Cable Car: Lechtaler Bergbahnen GmbH, Tel: +49 5633 6207, [Lechtaler Bergbahnen](http://www.lechtaler-bergbahnen.at) Jöchelspitzbahn, Tel. +43 (0)5634/6207 Access: From the east, it is best to travel via Füssen (Germany) to Reutte (Austria) and follow the Lech to Bach. From the west, travel through the Bregenzer Wald over the Hochtannberg Pass and Warth. For more details, visit [Jöchelspitze](http://www.joechelspitze.at). The southwest launch site is easy and located at 1800 meters above sea level. The hang glider ramp is best used in west wind conditions. The east launch site, at 1800 meters above sea level, is mainly used in winter. The water basin launch site, at 1900 meters above sea level, is primarily used for training and is located ten minutes above the mountain station. The Lachenkopf launch site, at 1950 meters above sea level, is of medium difficulty and is about a 20-minute walk above the mountain station.
