Located in Leavenworth, USA, the Icicle Ridge Trailhead offers a paragliding experience with an elevation of 819-898 meters and a height difference of approximately 450 meters. This site is regularly used for hike-and-fly adventures, taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes to hike up the Icicle Ridge Trail. The launch area is rough and unimproved, with two options available; this description pertains to the lower launch.
The launch faces East to Southeast and features an open slope with a few skinny trees nearby and below the launch area. After hiking up the Icicle Ridge Trail, you will need to go right at the top and then descend slightly to reach the launch site.
Landing zones in this area are sensitive. It is crucial not to land near the helipad if it is active. Always find a landing zone first or ask locals for advice before heading up.
Leavenworth offers two main launches: Icicle and Tumwater. Icicle is exclusively hike-and-fly, while Tumwater is accessible by road and is used for tandem flights and other operations. Tumwater has two launch areas: one requiring a 20-30 minute hike along the ridge towards Icicle, and another just 5 minutes from the parking area. The closest launch at Tumwater requires a P3 rating, site orientation, and a signed waiver.
