The area is known as a 'Leepumpe', which means it can be interesting for XC flights in light lee conditions. However, it's best to consult with local pilots for detailed insights.
Season:
Typically from the end of April until snowfall.
Hazards:
Not flyable during Bise (a cold wind from the northeast) as it becomes extremely turbulent. The launch tube is a lee puff.
Transport:
You can get there with the Freie Flieger Frutigland club bus or the Cloud-7 bus. If you drive yourself, you need to obtain a permit from a vending machine.
Launch Site:
The launch is straightforward, usually with a light headwind. If you encounter tailwind or crosswind in thermal conditions, avoid flying into the launch pump as it can be turbulent.
Landing Site:
The Frutigen airfield is usually not reachable without thermals. There is an emergency landing site in Kandergrund at the foot of the Grimers. Please pay a landing fee of 2 CHF in the box near the hangar.
Evaluation:
When conditions are right, Grimer is a fine flying area with sensational evening flights.

You can reach the launch site with the Freie Flieger Frutigland bus or the Cloud-7 flight school bus. For spring and summer launches before 17:00, the launch can be very rough and is not recommended for occasional pilots. Evening flights here are very beautiful, and it's often possible to soar above the Gehrenenkette even in the evening. Caution: Not flyable in north, northeast, and east wind conditions, even though there is usually a nice headwind at the launch site.
