Description
Gråkallen is the second highest mountain in Trondheim's Bymark, located 6 km west of Trondheim city center. At the summit, there are two large military flight radars, which are still operational, although the Air Force station was closed in 2002.
The site is flyable in all directions except northeast. It offers particularly good soaring conditions on the northwest side, where the elevation difference is approximately 300 meters. Toplanding is possible here.
Please note that there is radiation from the radar. GoPro cameras have been damaged, and variometers, GPS devices, and radios have also shown interference in the area. However, the radiation has been assessed by the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority and the Occupational Medicine Department at St. Olavs Hospital and poses no health risk.
