Takeoff from Eremo di S. Giacomo:
Located at an altitude of 750 meters, this site is accessible via the Provincial road from Bolognano di Arco towards Passo S. Barbara. At Salve Regina, where parking is available, a dirt road leads to the church/hermitage. The takeoff area is a narrow meadow below the church, allowing a maximum of two paragliders to launch simultaneously. The steep slope facilitates a quick and safe takeoff, although it remains technical due to limited space and the usual lateral breeze.
This site is primarily used for thermal and thermodynamic flights. Pilots should approach the ridge carefully to avoid the leeward side created by the southern breeze (òra). From here, it is possible to reach the summit of Monte Stivo.
Recommended period: All year round
Orientation: West
Best times for takeoff: Morning and evening in spring/summer, all day during the rest of the year.
Not recommended with north and east winds due to numerous leeward rotors generated at the ridge.
Flights to the Sarca Valley are discouraged during midday hours due to the southwest wind from Lake Garda (òra), which starts from late morning until evening. For cross-country flights, takeoff is possible during midday when cumulus clouds often form above the summit, indicating thermal activity.
