Description

The Diedamskopf is perhaps the most scenic mountain in the Bregenzerwald region. A panoramic cable car takes guests up to an impressive height of 2,060 meters over two sections. The main launch sites are located above the mountain station, next to the radio tower. Another launch site is on the Diedams Plateau, and you can also start from the mid-station. Due to its southern orientation, this mountain becomes thermally active early in the year. Excellent thermal connections can be found towards Kleinwalsertal, Lechtal, and Arlberg. With the Bregenzerwald Card, available for free with a stay of three nights or more, you can use all public transport and cable cars in the region. For paragliders, the first mountain ride of the day is free with the Bregenzerwald Guest Card, whether in Andelsbuch, Bezau, or on the Diedamskopf. Additionally, the card offers free entry to swimming pools and discounts at numerous partner establishments. Launching is only permitted from the marked launch sites (windsock). In winter, launching from the ski slopes is not allowed. The designated flight corridor must be adhered to, with a minimum flight altitude of 300 meters to avoid disturbing wildlife. Information boards at the launch and landing sites, as well as an info sheet at the valley station, provide further details. Behavioral recommendations: - Stick to the designated flight area (marked in red), especially avoiding the Üntschen and Kanisfluh areas. - Do not glide along treeless mountain slopes and ridges. - Maintain a flight altitude of at least 300 meters whenever possible. - Avoid known wildlife habitats. - Keep a distance from any wildlife you encounter. For hang gliders, especially in winter: - The upper launch site (W) is about 300 meters from the cable car. The hang glider must be carried up, which takes about 30-40 minutes. - The two lower ramps (S SW) are 250 meters below the cable car. The hang glider must also be carried here. Information on the website can help with planning. The right ramp is weathered and dangerous. The "new" ramp to the left is also weathered and dangerous. Both ramps lack wind indicators. In winter, pilots must bring their own snow shovels to clear the ramps. - During ski operations, hang gliders must be handed in at the cable car by 4:00 PM the day before. No hang gliders are transported during ski operations. Take-off points: 1) Above the gondola station, beside the antenna: - Ramp direction: WNW - Field direction: S-SE (-E) 2) To the east below the gondola station: direction S (marked with windsock). The Diedamskopf is a central location for winter flying, but it is also popular in other seasons. In summer, the valley wind from Bezau can spoil the fun due to a valley funnel effect. In such cases, it's best to switch to Andelsbuch/Niedere. Flights: In late winter and spring, flights over the adjacent Falzerkopf and Üntschenspitze are possible, marking the first step towards cross-country flying. The Mittagsfluh works well with S to SE winds. Otherwise, flights over Au and Schoppernau offer stunning scenery. Difficulty: The valley wind can make summer flying challenging. As always, be mindful of potential weather changes, high-altitude winds, and high-voltage power lines near the landing site.
