Description
Desous Mountain, located 15 miles south of Williams Lake on Highway 20 in Central British Columbia, Canada, is primarily a hang gliding site. The launch site is at an elevation of 4500 feet above sea level, with a landing zone at 1300 feet above sea level. The site is best suited for hang gliders due to its shallow alpine meadow launch and the long glide required to reach the landing zone, making it less ideal for paragliders.
Access to the site requires a 4WD vehicle, especially in the spring due to snow. From Williams Lake, drive 24 km south, turn south on Dog Creek Road for 8 km, then take the southwest fork for another 8 km. Turn west at the sign onto Desous Road to reach the takeoff point.
The landing zone is a small aircraft landing field surrounded by trees, located just east of the bridge over the Fraser River on the Lightning Cattle Company Road. Note that no cars are allowed in the landing field.
The best flying season for this site is from March to September. The site offers good thermal flying conditions with a cross-country potential of up to 35 miles.
