Description
At an altitude of 1650 meters with a height difference of 704 meters, this paragliding site is relatively easy to access. The site is occasionally used for soaring and cross-country flights, but it is more popular among hiking enthusiasts due to its proximity to main launch sites.
To reach the launch site, you can take a 30-minute walk from the top station of the Rofan cable car to the steep slope, which is exclusively for paragliders. For a more adventurous winter tour, you can hike all the way to the top of the mountain. For flight logs, refer to the Rofan region.

The Mauritzalm launch site, situated about 7 minutes from the top station, features a relatively flat start meadow with minimal elevation difference along the slope to the forest edge. Alternatively, the launch site towards Dalfazalm is about 25 minutes from the top station and offers a steeper launch directly into thermals.
For hang gliders, there is a launch ramp next to the Erfurter Hütte. Hang gliders can land at the official landing site in Maurach or in the Inntal (fields east of Münster).
For a quieter flight, especially in the afternoon, you can head towards Pertisau to Bärenkopf or 12er for some relaxed soaring.
In terms of difficulty, avoid using the Mauritzalm launch site during strong west to northwest winds or strong thermals. Instead, consider the west launch site towards Dalfazalm. The windsock is visible from the top station. If in doubt, consult the test pilots usually present or take the free descent for paragliders and head up in Pertisau.
Typically, the valley wind shifts from south to north in the afternoon. During this transition, wait for the north wind to settle before landing to avoid wind shear. Observe the lake and windsock for cues.
Flight restrictions include a maximum altitude of 9,500 ft (approximately 2,850 meters) due to the CTA Innsbruck East and SRA 5. For flights towards Zillertal, enter SRA 2, starting south of Ebner Spitze at Kanzelkehre, with a limit of 8,500 ft (approximately 2,600 meters).
Thermals are usually usable even in winter. During Föhn conditions, the south wind is amplified by the Ebner Joch and Stanser Joch or Bärenkopf, creating a stronger south wind in the valley than on the mountain. For soaring conditions, cross the Achensee towards Bärenkopf or 12er. The valley wind typically sets in the afternoon.
