Description

The takeoff altitude is 2200 meters, and the landing altitude is 1070 meters, giving a vertical drop of 1130 meters. This site is rated as easy and faces south. The starting point is in the hamlet of Rivotti, located in the Piedmont region. This flight takes place in the Vercellina valley, offering rewarding and scenic views beneath Mount Morion. Following its descending ridge towards the hamlet of Rivotti, you can find good thermals. Landing is in the meadows of the hamlet of Richiardi, located to the left of the road leading to Forno Alpi Graie, after the junction that ascends to the hamlet of Rivotti. To get there, from Lanzo, head towards Germagnano and Pessinetto, then take the provincial road of Val Grande towards Cantoira, Chialamberto, and Pialpetta (Municipality of Groscavallo). After passing through the town, turn right following signs for Colonia Alpina. After about a kilometer, you will reach a junction; turn left towards the hamlet of Rivotti. Shortly after, you will reach the starting point of the route. You can park your car a few meters uphill from the church of Madonna della Visitazione, which is characterized by a bell tower with a stone-covered dome roof. The approach on foot takes you through one of the most picturesque and untouched areas of Val Grande: the Vercellina Valley, continuing into the Unghiasse basin. Start on the paved road that begins uphill from the church. Follow it for about 10 minutes until you reach a larch forest, where the road becomes unpaved. After passing through the tall vegetation, take the path on the right that leads into the Vercellina Valley, which was once home to numerous iron and silver mines. Shortly, you will reach Alpe Invers, where there is a first takeoff meadow on the left (with a windsock on site). After passing the Invers huts (1647 meters), you will enter another wooded area. After this, you will traverse a section along the hillside among blueberries and rhododendrons. Shortly, you will arrive at the pastures of Gias di Mezzo (2092 meters), and by moving to the right side of the valley, you will reach the Gias Burich alpine pasture (2322 meters).
