Description
Located in Andalucia, Spain, this paragliding site offers a takeoff height of 815 meters with a height difference of approximately 250 meters. It is occasionally used for thermal soaring, and some cross-country (XC) flights are possible. The site is particularly suitable for soaring with south to southeast winds.
To access the takeoff point, park at the cemetery just outside the village and walk up on the other side of the street. The takeoff area is situated directly at the cliff edge near the cemetery in Cañete la Real. This spot is short and steep, making it unsuitable for beginners. For a safer launch, you can hike 60 meters uphill behind the cemetery to find gentler slopes.
Landing is typically done on the uncultivated fields at the base of the hill. If you manage to gain enough altitude, you can cross the valley to the east of the takeoff point and enjoy an additional 1.5 km of ridge soaring on the next hill. The scenery is particularly captivating, making it a visually rewarding experience.
For those who don't always want to head to Levante with south-southeast winds, Cañete la Real offers a great alternative, especially for strong wind conditions. The site record for this location is 11.4 km.
