Description
The flying site is regularly used for soaring but offers limited cross-country opportunities. It is closed annually from March 1st to July 15th for bird protection.
Region: Germany
Site record: 11.1 km
Flights: [Link to flights](http://www.pdgfc.de/content/?page_id=437)
Important Rules:
1. The nature reserve 'Haardtrand-unterhalb der Madenburg' must not be overflown, except at a minimum height of 150m above ground.
2. Due to the proximity of the nature reserve to the launch site, flying is prohibited during the bird breeding season from March 1st to July 15th each year.
3. Access to the launch site is contractually regulated with the municipality of Eschbach. The conditions of the agreement from October 27, 1988, must be adhered to.
Landing Zone:
The landing zone is located on the B48 - Deutsche Weinstraße - between Eschbach and Klingenmünster. Access is via the L509 - Deutsche Weinstraße, towards Klingenmünster. About 200m after passing the junction to Annweiler, there is a parking lot on the left. If coming from Annweiler via the B48, keep left towards Klingenmünster, and after about 200m, the parking lot will be on the right. The landing field is directly opposite the parking lot on the other side of the road next to a small wooded area. There is an underpass under the B48.
It is advisable to get guidance from a club member for landing, as it can be tricky.
Launch Site:
The launch direction is East. The height difference to the landing field is 187m, with an elevation of 453m above sea level. The launch is a ramp start and should not be attempted without a knowledgeable club helper. Hang gliders are set up in the castle courtyard, with a maximum of 4 gliders at a time. A strong run is required to clear the trees.
General Information:
At Madenburg, only hang gliders can be launched due to the specific nature of the launch site, which does not allow for paragliders to be laid out. Pilots must have at least a restricted pilot's license (A-Schein) and liability insurance. Launching is only permitted in the presence of at least one PDGFC member, and their instructions must be followed.
Access to the launch site is only allowed with club members in a maximum of 3 cars with a driving permit.
During the bird breeding season from March 1st to July 15th, launching at Madenburg is prohibited. Violations could lead to a complete ban on flying at Madenburg.
Access to Madenburg is only possible with a special driving permit. Do not attempt to drive up yourself, as it is difficult to find and could cause issues with the forestry administration. We meet at the parking lot at the landing field, where carpooling with club members who have a driving permit is organized. Guest pilots are welcome to join. A small fee of EUR 5 is collected from each passenger to cover the driver's expenses.
