The Bockmattli, standing at 1932 meters, is a peak in the Glarus Alps on the border of the canton of Schwyz. It is a secondary peak of the Tierberg, which is 1989 meters high. Located about three kilometers east of Innerthal by the Wägitalersee and approximately 8 km west of Näfels, the Bockmattlipass (1809 meters) connects the Wägital with the Oberseetal. This area is popular for both hiking and climbing, featuring some challenging routes.
For those interested in a hike and fly experience, the ascent starts from Innerthal. A marked path leads to Bockmattli, taking about 2.5 hours. The route is as follows: Innerthal - Schwarzenegg - Bockmattlihütte - Bockmattlipass - Bockmattli. The initial climb to Schwarzenegg is quite steep, offering a quick gain in altitude and a beautiful view over the Wägitalersee. Note that this path can be muddy and slippery if it rained the previous day. After about an hour, you will reach Alp Schwarzenegg. The trail continues steeply over Schwarzenegghöchi to Bockmattlihütte, where you can take a break before the final ascent through the couloir to Bockmattlipass. From the pass, it is a less steep 20-minute hike to the summit.
The launch site is near the summit, ideally facing south. This location is perfect for a panoramic flight over the Linthebene towards the Zurich Oberland.
Access by car: Take the A3 motorway (Zurich - Sargans) and exit at Lachen. Drive towards Siebnen, then turn right towards Wägital. You can drive up to the starting point between Sännegg and Blattli, where there is space for about three cars. If parking is full, use the paid parking in Innerthal, which adds about 50 minutes to the route.
Access by train and bus: Take the train to Siebnen-Wangen, then the Postauto to Innerthal, Post. Walk along the lake until just before Blattli.
