Description

The Blättersberg offers take-off opportunities with southeast winds. The terrain is challenging to fly. The launch site is extremely steep, making it difficult to abort a take-off. The landing area is also tricky to approach. For more information, visit the Südpfälzer Gleitschirmflieger website: https://www.duddefliecher.de/index.php/fluggebiete/blaettersberg The take-off site at Blättersberg is very demanding due to its steepness, and aborting a take-off is difficult. Pilots flying here for the first time must receive a thorough briefing at both the landing and take-off sites. Newcomers should arrange to meet a club member at the meeting point (parking lot). Access: The ascent is only on foot, approximately 30 minutes. No driving is allowed. The terrain is demanding, making Blättersberg unsuitable for beginners and pilots with fewer than 60 flights in the last 12 months. Exceptional landing technique in turbulent conditions and a reliable assessment of glide angle in headwinds and sink are essential. Take-off Instructions: Lay out the wing just before take-off. Check the wind direction. Pay attention to the consistent movement of all wind indicators. Westerly winds bring strong turbulence and often lead to tree landings. Do not take off in these conditions. Flight Instructions: Maintain sufficient distance from the slope to avoid disturbing birds. Expect turbulence with S-SW winds. The landing area is far away, and you must fly over regions with increased sink. Leave the mountain at least at take-off height towards the landing area. Landing Instructions: A detailed description of the landing area can be found here. The landing area is challenging. Pay attention to wind direction and thermal turbulence. Be cautious of surrounding vineyards. If entering a vineyard, fly parallel to the rows regardless of wind direction. If multiple pilots are approaching the landing area simultaneously, they must keep an eye on each other and stagger their landings to avoid collisions. Expect strong sink and lift at the landing site. Landing in the quarry area at the foot of the mountain is prohibited for conservation reasons. Liability and Warranty Disclaimer: No warranty is given for the accuracy of the information provided in this flight area description. Changes are reserved. Each pilot uses this area at their own risk and independently decides on take-off, flight path, and landing. The pilot must consider current conditions, their own flying skills, and the state of the terrain when making the take-off decision. Terrain Briefing: Only pilots with the appropriate flying experience and skill level are allowed to take off in this area. All pilots must undergo a terrain briefing by a person designated by the SGC before their first flight. This person must be aware of the pilot's skill level.
