Description
The main launch site is regularly used and offers the possibility for cross-country flights. The landing site at Ambri airfield is not permitted; maintain a distance of 5 km. Land in Faido or Airolo instead.
In Ambri-Piotta, take the funicular, which was recently the steepest in Europe. It will take you up to Lake Ritom. From there, follow the well-marked path for about 15-45 minutes towards Föisc.

There are many cross-country opportunities: over the Gotthard, over the Nufenen Pass into Valais, into nearby Graubünden, or directly into the beautiful Maggia Valley.
The launch sites are steep, and terrain-induced rotors can occur. Depending on the weather, strong valley winds may also be present.
This is a little-known alpine flying area in northern Ticino, near the southern exit of the Gotthard road tunnel, offering stunning views and expansive landscapes. The area is still wild and rugged, making it an excellent soaring and thermal flying spot for alpine pilots.
The funicular quickly takes you to over 1800 meters, and the valley wind, which is reliable both in summer and winter, does the rest.
In Ticino, you can also discover culinary delights and shady grottos. The excellent mountain cheese is a highlight. Note: both north and south Föhn winds can occur here, which can be detrimental to your health.
