Description
Located in Sand in Taufers (Campo Tures), Italy, this paragliding site is highly versatile and frequently used by pilots of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. The site is particularly popular for relaxed thermal soaring flights and is heavily utilized by paragliding schools. Occasionally, it also offers good opportunities for cross-country (XC) flights.
Access to the take-off point in Ahornach is convenient, either by car or by a seasonal taxi service that typically runs once daily from the landing zone in Sand. The drive is relatively long, but the journey is worth it for the excellent flying conditions.
The best time to fly here is from mid-March to May, although the site is practically flyable year-round. The take-off altitude is 1425 meters, with a height difference of 549 meters. The site record for distance is 81.0 km.
For those new to cross-country flying, it is recommended to head towards Bruneck, where large meadows provide ample landing opportunities. The site is suitable for both paragliders (PG) and hang gliders (HG).
When driving to Ahornach, follow the road towards Oberpojen until you reach the take-off point. Parking is available along the side of the road, but it is crucial to keep the road clear of vehicles.
The flight offers a panoramic view over Sand with potential for cross-country flights along the main Alpine ridge and towards Bruneck. In the evenings, the ridge opposite the take-off point, behind the tennis hall, often provides lift.
Important safety note: Avoid flying too far left towards Rein in Taufers, as there are no landing zones and it can be dangerous, especially during a north foehn.

The landing zone features a large information board, and registration is required at Gasthof Brugghof in Kematen, located south of the landing area. The take-off area is accessible via an asphalt road to Ahornach, approximately 5 km from the parking area above the take-off point.
Morning flights are suitable for training, but cross-country flights are also possible. The site offers excellent conditions for thermal flying, with a south-facing slope that becomes thermally active early in the day. Evening thermals are also enjoyable here.
