Infos: The most famous Chicama, known to be the longest wave in the world is unfortunately not really rideable with a kite as the off-shore winds are shadowed by the beautiful and impressive cliffs facing the wave. However, you still may see Cristian, a local rasta kitesurfer, also famous for training surfing dogs, kitesurfing the end of the wave, near to the peer and even do some downwinders up north.

Infos: Lobitos is a wave spot. So make sure you have your wave skills together. It is not a spot to learn how to kite in surf. There is a ripping current at times. Make sure if there are people surfing you give them the right at all times, no matter if you are deeper up the point. There is 2 piers that are down wind that will come up fast even though they look far away from the top of the point. There are also fishing boats moored outside of the pier. Many of people have ended up tangled in the pier or touring through the boats not by choice.
Beach type & size: Sand - Big
Infos: The beach is huge and there is nothing around. The point is a sand point that build off rocks at the top.
Beachgoer: None
Weather specificities: The water can vary in temp drastically here. One day you can be in trunks and the next you will need a 3/2 full. Bring rubber no matter what, more than likely you will need it here and if you are in trunks it is a bonus.
Wind type: Thermal
Wind specificities: The wind here blows side off to off shore all the time. Rarely is it straight side or onshore. This again means that you have to have your act together and be prepared if you have problems for a long swim or ditch your kite. The wind Wwill blow you out to sea and there are no rescue options unless there are other kiters. But even at that it is risky. The wind can tend to be a bit gusty right at the take off spot of the wave due to some land features that create a bit of a dead spot.
Best months: May, June, July, August, September, October
Access description: by Car - Getting to North Peru is easy. There are 3 airports that have daily flight from Lima (Talara, Piura, and Tumbes. Though there are some places and some new ones getting built right at Lobitos, it is recommended to Stay in Mancora which is about 1 hour north. Getting to Lobitos is the hard part. It is recommended that you get a guide in Mancora that can take you there.
Specific rules: Other
Extra: Though there are no written rules, you will be in the surf and need to respect that. If there is a large pack of guys surfing, let them surf and kite when it is lighter crowds. Since the wind is side off the wave stays smooth all day, so guys may be surfing all day. Never drop in a guy surfing! As for kiting, don't short jibe! Get into the rotation of heading outside and taking your position. If you are going to be doing freestyle, this is not the place for you. You will be in the way. There are plenty of other spots for that. Right now the scene is mellow and everyone respects everyone. You all know that one person can rune this vibe. The place is beautiful, so lets keep it that way. Take all trash out with you. And leave harsh attitudes back at your spot.
Nightlife: Mancora is the spot for nightlife. Whatever you want to get into, it is there. Plenty of bars, disco's and restaurants.

Wind type: Thermal
Wind specificities: In the low wind season (May to August) you find 15-25 knots. I would say about 70% of the time you find that wind, and another 30% you find 9-14 knots. It can be quite gusty - even sometimes dangerous because it speeds up very fast and gets unpredictable strong (that wind is called Paraca). It's the last resource when there is no wind in Paracas.

Infos: The tide is really low and does not make any differences for riders. You can choose from perfect flat close to the shores or some chop depending on the wind speed but it is normally considered flat unless we get a Paraca (really strong winds above 30 knots) when it gets choppy if you ride far from the shores.
Beach type & size: Sand - Big
Infos: It is a desert beach with some houses developing around. The beach is at the border of the natural reserve, therefore we will not get houses spoiling the amazing winds. It is hard sand and some compacted dust as there is quiet often the "Paracas winds". There is enough space to launch and land kites.
Identified hazards: None
Weather specificities: Paracas is sunny almost all year long. In winter time we can get sometimes some gray days but not many. From May till October a 2-3 wetsuit would do the trick as the best "clean" winds are coming late in the afternoons and gets a bit chilling for Peruvians as for people coming from "cold" countries feel good. The good season is from August till May but if you like warmer weather come in November to April. The water is normally around 18C, it can get a bit colder or warmer depending on the tides and currents as Paracas Bay is continuously changing.
Wind type: Thermal
Wind specificities: The wind direction starts coming North in the mornings, it usually switches at 11am but during the good season sometimes 9am to South. We ride the South wind as the North wind usually is light. The morning winds are very stable and also the afternoon winds, from noon to 3pm can be a bit gusty (5 knots gust in average) which is never a problem and is rare to have a day that the gusts make it uncomfortable. The really cool thing is that the wind is coming sideoffshore so its really safe. If you loose your kite or board just walk for 5 minutes and pick it up at the other side of the bay as it is a perfect U-shaped bay and is really safe unless you decide to ride way far out of the shore. You can ride all year long, and the worst kiting weeks of the low season you can ride on an average of 3 days a week, at the good season you can ride 28 days per month (November to April).
Best months: January, February, March, April, November, December
Access description: by Car, Bus - The best way to get here is to fly to Lima, then get a bus (the very good special services cost around 15$) and 4 hours later you will be in Paracas (Ormeno and Cruz del Sur companies have that "tourist" service as Paracas is a very visited zone because of the Ballestas Islands with penguins, dolphins, zillions of birds, and thousands of sea lions, also the reserve is just breath taking).
Specific rules: Zones
Extra: Please do not ride inside the really protected areas of the reserve (ask the locals), not only because you will annoy someone who will be in our necks later, there are very important species who need their space and they must be respected. No registration or license needed, just common sense and good attitude, the locals are really friendly.

Infos: Zarate is a wave spot, usually not choppy in the wave spot. The waves are long, with a nice tube, formed by the sideshore wind. These waves are not the nasty-type. They can break from 1 to 7 feet high, with a nice clear area downwind from the point. So even if you lose your kite, it should be safe.
Beach type & size: Pebbles - Big
Infos: The beach has plenty of launching space, and it is covered by pebbles. There can be some sea urchins inside. It is a natural reserve beach.
Identified hazards: None
Beachgoer: None
Weather specificities: It is sunny about 95% of the days in a year. On summer you may need a spring-suit, only for late kiting. From May to October bring a full-suit. Air temp never gets below 15C (May to October) and can reach 31C in the summer (January to March).
Wind specificities: 12-25 knots, South sideshore wind, September to May. The rest of the year brings similar conditions at least half the time. South wind is the best. There may be North wind up to 2:45pm every day, but it switches to South wind. There are occasional `Paracas`, 30+ knot sandstorms, about every other month. It is not recommended to kitesurf in a `Paraca`. This spot is isolated.
Best months: January, February, March, April, May, September, October, November, December
Access description: by Car - Go into the Paracas Natural Reserve. Take the South road as soon as you cross the toll gate. Drive on the road about 10 minutes, and turn right, off-road, towards the ocean. You should see Zarate on the left. There are no marked signs to reach Zarate. Park on the beach.

Extra: Be gentle with the birds and the habitat, and respectful to the Natural Reserve guards. Take your trash away with you. Wear a helmet, and try to spot a fisherman boat before you go in the water. You are usually alone and you may need their help.
