Type: Island
Water type: Shallow, Flat, Chop, Small wave
Water hazards: Currents, Ships, Reefs, Corals, Mole
Water quality: Crystal clear
Infos: There is tide. Take care with low tide in the East side of the island cause many corals and also two little artificial walls (about 1m high situated on NE side). Strong shoes recommended. The water is flat. During summer monsoon can form little waves inside lagoon. The island is big, around 2.7 km the perimeter. The lagoon is very big. Different sea floors: East side with many corals while West side you have sand. Take care at South side of the island, cause a strong current between Meeru and near other island Dhiffushi and also because there is a channel reserved to the boats traveling toward Dhiffushi.
Beach type & size: Sand - Medium
Infos: In Maldives you have the most incredible kind of beaches. The color of the sea (in Meeru they say you can see 45 color tone of blue) and the white of the beaches are incredible. The white sand can cause eye injuries due to the intensity of the white light. The sand is soft. Rocks and corals only in the NE side.
Identified hazards: Rocks, Shells
Beachgoer: None
Weather specificities: Usually you have two seasons: from November till April you have wind from NE to SE direction and dry weather with temperature around 30C. From May till October it's the opposite. You have wind from SE to NE, rain, around 27C and the force of the wind is higher. But this is relative. Water temp. is about 28C.
Wind type: Trade
Wind specificities: Wind is steady during summer monsoon, but in some days you can have gusty wind with rain, and after 20 minutes sun. Usually you have light to moderate winds. During summer the West side has onshore wind and East has offshore wind. I think for kiting the best side is the West and NW. Usually you have two seasons: from November till April you have wind from NE to SW direction. From May till October it's the opposite. You have wind from SW to NE and the force of the wind is higher.
Best months: January, February, March, April, November, December

Weather specificities: Generally great weather all year. Air temperature 32C and water 27-28C. Shorts is all you need but maybe a rash guard is good as sun protection. The best time to go is December to March, mainly sunny and very consistent winds. Maldives have no rainy season but stormy weather when the moonsoon changes from NE to SW. This normally occurs in May when heavy rain storms passes through. Generally a few short rain showers per week in the summer. Almost nothing in the winter.
Wind type: Thermal
Wind specificities: The best winds are from December to end of February. The wind will mainly blow from the East and is very consistent and smooth with no gusts. January is the strongest month with 20-35 knots daily. Beware of March, a month with no wind normally. The rest of the year varying winds from 5-25 knots, normally when the wind is up, it is up for the whole day with not much changes. Since it is an island this spot works for all directions and it is always possible to find sideshore winds.

Infos: A huge shallow lagoon, where you can almost stand everywhere. At the south side of the island and its lagoon is a big reef, which is the end of that atoll. The water is flat and can be a bit choppy when the wind is stronger, but still very nice riding. Maldives have a tide, but the lagoon at the nautical center will always be deep enough for windsurfing as well.
Beach type & size: Sand - Small
Infos: The beach has very white and smooth sand - just beautiful. There are corals around the island, but at the main water sports area it is no problem. If you have problems going upwind, I recommend wearing shoes, since the big reef is not too far away. At the east beach of Sun Island at the Nautic station you have an excellent beach with lost of space to launch and land the kite. The beach is never that packed, only few people around. And on the water it is normally very empty.

Infos: The water is flat and shallow inside the lagoon. The sea floor has sand. The only side with some corals is the West side near the landing stage. During low tide you can see many little island of white sand appear in the lagoon, that is big. Waves are small inside the lagoon and also near the reef in the West side are small. You have big waves near the reef in the East side. In the West side you have the reef near the beach, around 100 m, while in East side reef is far, about 500m. The lagoon is big.
Beach type & size: Sand - Medium
Infos: The beach is fantastic. West side and East side have beautiful beaches, with soft sand and shells. No rocks in the sea, only a little wall in the end of the South side of the island. I think that the South and the West side are better for kiting. Also you can use those little islands of sand as base for launching during low tide. On this island you have white sand everywhere.

Access description: by Boat - Olhuveli island is situated in South Male atoll about 35 km south of Male. It takes 30 minutes to arrive there with a speed boat. They use open cruiser boats with 450hp outboard engines. You fly on the water to arrive there! There is little bit of confusion about fast boats. There are two kind of fast boats with big differences in velocity. There is also another boat used to do very short transfers called Dhoni (a typical Maldivian boat), but forget this to reach the most part of the islands.
