Water type: Shallow, Flat, Chop
Water hazards: Currents, Fishernets, Shells, Stakes
Water quality: Clean
Infos: The hazards in this location are mostly related to the likelihood of an incident, such as a deflation in the deep channel that can quickly pull you out to sea.
Beach type & size: Grass, Sand - Big
Infos: The only other "issue" would be the odd Khmer come up and play with your lines and shake their head as they call you crazy.
Identified hazards: Shells, Road
Beachgoer: January, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December
Weather specificities: Water is always perfect temperature.
Wind type: Thermal, Trade
Wind specificities: An incredible location for kitesurfing nearly all year. From the northerly 30kt winds in November and December, the wind dies for 3 months until mid April (actually it comes from the North in these months, where we have a big mountain creating a less than ideal wind gust situation). Then it steadily increases to between 15-22 knots most days until late August. Best direction is based on our peninsula beach, with three possible directions to kite. April to June the wind moves from the E to SE so we often ride onshore. As we get to August things seem to really pump up and the big kites are washed and stored, then we delve into some days on/some days off as the mountain in the west is a terra graphic difficulty, playing with the teasing wind from over the hill. Often these are the gusty months.
Best months: May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December
Access description: by Car, Boat - Depending on weather, we have access via several methods. When dry, most cars can drive to the beach. If there has been any rain, most 2 wheel drive cars simply won't make it. There are alternatives to suit this though, as there are now several fast water craft which simply take their Kite-peeps directly to the beach in about 10 mins for a shared fuel cost. The Rain through August, September and October means that 4wd access is required, or boat access, which is also available.
Specific rules: Time
Extra: My friend and I have been given the privilege to use it for another 5 yrs before they turn this beach into a Casino.
Nightlife: There are over 70 guesthouses in Kampot, However, most of them don't realise the aesthetic potential of what they have, and therefore most people nowadays are going out to eat at a bar/restaurant instead of in the room. On weekends, "Bodhi Villa" Bar on the Touk Chouu Rd has live music every Friday from 9pm. Madi's Madhouse open now, too. Tis a nice outfitting of A Khmer decor in a post modernistic urban outfitting.

Type: Ocean
Water type: Chop, Small wave
Water quality: Clean
Infos: The tide does not make any difference in the conditions. It gets deep quite fast, after about 20 meters or so. It is very choppy with some regular little ramps, further out they get a bit bigger but not real waves.
Beach type & size: Sand - Big
Infos: The beach is about 3 km long. Some places very wide other places not so wide but there is always enough space for launching. Even in high tide there is plenty of beach left for launching. A lot of the beach bars and restaurants are right at the beach, so you can take a break in a beach chair just by your gear and only 100 meters from your guest house. The sand is nice and clean. No shells and unfortunately no grass either but the sand is not too 'sticky'.
Identified hazards: None
Weather specificities: Tropical climate. Rainy, monsoon season (May to November), dry season (December to April). Little seasonal temperature variation. Extremely warm waters. Bring your boardshorts and/or bikini! Maybe a rash vest for sun protection. It will never be too cold.
Wind specificities: Locals say the wind usually comes in stronger in the afternoon. Everybody said they had never seen kitesurfing before and that we were the first kitesurfers there - maybe theres a reason for that. If the wind is there the spot is fantastic but you might get a little tired of the chop after a while.
Access description: by Car - From Phnom Penh take a bus from the Central Market to Sihanoukville about 5-6 hours. Then grab a motodube (motorbike taxi) from the Sihanoukville bus station and go to the beach. Located south of Sihanoukville. There are guest houses all over so just pick one close to the beach.
Specific rules: None
Nightlife: There are parties every night in one or more of the beach bars but it's more like a cosy drink, talk, eat 'happy' meals atmosphere than party's.
