Infos: A beach break exists but only works some times, during winter it can be fun. No reef in the kitezone, downwind has many limestone reefs that are very sharp and would make short work of a kite. Some seaweed on but otherwise great.
Beach type & size: Sand - Medium
Infos: A great big sandy beach.
Identified hazards: Shells, Bystanders
Beachgoer: January, February, March, October, November, December
Weather specificities: Warm and windy most days in summer, it's Perth-hot and windy rash vest is essential in summer other wise you will come back looking like a cooked Crayfish (you can get one of those up the beach). In winter most wear a full length wetsuit but the water is still above 16C. The on season is summer and some still kite during winter but they are storm riders-experienced kiters only.
Wind type: Thermal
Wind specificities: The beach faces WNW so the best wind is the sea breeze (SW). Strong SW are expected in summer and winter is a whole range but you can be lucky and get a northerly.
Best months: January, February, March, December
Access description: by Car, Train - From Perth: get on Stirling hwy. head south. Turn right at Mosman Park train station so that you cross the level crossing. Head southwest, once you pass the pedestrian bridge you are at the kite beach. From Freo: head up the coast, once over the river head for the sea, go north and you will be driving parallel to the beach, park near the pedestrian bridge. The car park is commonly hit by thieves.
Specific rules: License
Extra: Act sensible, AKSA membership is needed if you do a downwinder to Duch Inn. The beach is restricted to the area south of the bridge and north of the surf club during summer yet you can go anywhere south of the bridge in winter. Watch out for car breakers.
Nightlife: Freo Coffey Strip has clubs, catch train to Freo and you will find it.

Wind type: Thermal
Wind specificities: 6 days out of 7 have 15-25 knot sea breeze during summer season. Best on Southwest sea breeze. Summer is the best time to kite in Perth. Summer starts in December and finishes in March. During the summer Perth gets the infamous 'Fremantle Doctor', 'the most consistent wind in the world, making it ideal kitesurfing conditions. It's just like clockwork, coming in between noon and 3pm. Giving you somewhere between 15-25 knots (average) a day. You maybe able to get some days in during the winter time, however with strong, gusty, and squally winds.
Best months: January, February, March, December
Access description: by Car - From Perth travel west along Mounts Bay Road. Turn left (South) onto Hampden Road, then left (East) onto Princess Road. Look for the car park on the right hand side about 500m along.

Extra: Not suited for the total novice as trees line the shore down wind, requires basic skills. The area around the 'wildlife migration protection zone' is a no kite zone thus requires you to be able to stay up wind in the gusty conditions that rain kind there.

Infos: Wear boots to protect from stonefish. There are a few small rocks/stones in the shallow areas close to the beach. Perfect beginners place with very flat waters 0,5-1m deep. Also it's a huge area, definitely not too small for beginners (area close to the campground).
Beach type & size: Sand - Small
Infos: The beach is a bit small for beginners, but you can launch standing in the very shallow water. The fence is not really a problem but should be avoided.
Identified hazards: Fence
Weather specificities: Very warm air and water during summer. UV protection recommended.
Wind specificities: Had SE winds, was a bit gusty because of the hills. Should work better on SW winds or Northerlies. Wind was weaker than at Little Lagoon. The more inside the lagoon you go, the worse (less wind/gusty) the wind gets (careful, leads to the walk of shame back..) Best wind was in the first curve and along the opening to the sea close to the camping area.
Access description: by Car - In Francois Peron National Park, take the sand road (4WD only!) to the Big Lagoon camp site.

Infos: These are the open ocean waters of Encounter Bay being the Indian Ocean, there is nothing between you and Antartica except this massive Southern Ocean. The water is salt and tidal. As similar to Snapper Point except on a smaller scale there is a flat reef which one could think was made for kiting. The reef is flat rock, sand and covered in weed and when the tide covers it makes for flat water runs out to the choppier deep water. It is a smaller run than Snapper Point and therefore the ride requires a mix of chop and flat water. You can also tack up wind and get into some small to medium waves out the back but there is a reef which will expose out there which is quite visible so look out for it. These waves are quite good fun and are over a rocky weedy reef. In a more SE wind there is another tack heading towards the lee side of wright Island, this is experienced kiters only but is awsome. Check with the locals regarding the reef and markers. The run takes you over to the famous Granite Island which is a tourist draw card for Victor Harbor. There is another little reef over that way but again check with the locals regarding exposure. It is more like a little wash pool ramp haven but can be exposed. If your kite goes down you will wash up on the Victor Harbor beach which is quite safe as long as you miss the 3-4 boats now moored in the bay. If you are out in the middle of the bay this is no problem, however you will be drifting for some time so if you have any fears about this, don't go out! The reef will become exposed and be unkiteable, keep an eye on this, once the reef is exposed the shine of Kent is gone so pack up unless you have enough wind to get out to the deeper water and waves. You will be kiting in the swimmer area otherwise out to the boats, please don't do this unless no-one is there! Tides of 0.3 m but 0.4 mts is preferred! If you jump over this shallow reef water be prepared to wear the consequences if you land on the reef!
Beach type & size: Sand - Medium
Infos: The beach is excellent for rigging and launching. However keep to the southern tip and only go out when there is enough wind. Do NOT use the Northern area where swimmers and families are! See local rules. In normal tides there is plenty of room, in high tide this is little room but you can normally walk out into the water, in winter sometimes you can't get enough to launch but normally we are at Snapper or Aldinga Beach anyhow! Great beach for the familly and there are playgrounds and a park behind the beach.
Identified hazards: Bystanders
Beachgoer: January, February, December
Weather specificities: This is a great family, non kiting partner spot as the weather is pleasant and it rarely gets too hot here. There are shops and picnic spots, if anything it gets a bit cool compared to other SA areas if you like the heat. Good weather in general, winter can be cold. The water generally is between 12C in winter to 16C in summer (only on the surface).
Wind type: Thermal
Wind specificities: Generally wind is 10-15 knots regularly, 15-20 when it's good, 20-30 when its really good and in some of the sea breezes. You need a Southerly or SE mainly, SW comes over the land and is too gusty most of the time. Anything North is forbidden. There is a phenomenon in wind which actually works with the hills in favor. The hills start to set up a land breeze at the Sellicks, Aldinga side of the coast (well to the north) and can pull in evening sea breezes at Kent. They can start as late as 6 pm, and increase to more than any other spot at that time. This is primarily a summer spot relying on sea breeze or the summer SE pattern which sets up like a trade wind. It does however take a little less sea breeze than most spots around because of the hills behind and the green nature of these hills which take longer to dry out in summer.
Best months: January, February, March, April, November, December
Access description: by Car - Go to Victor Harbor. Follow Bay Road to Harbour View Tec and turn left at the round about, the reserve on the left is Kent Reserve. Find a car park there is a ramp onto the beach (don't Drive on the beach ever!) this is the northern part of Kent Beach, get your gear and walk to the southern area to rig. Send the family over to the play ground.
Specific rules: Zones
Extra: KENT RESERVE RULES: keep away from the beach goers! When they are walking along the beach, as they will, let them go past before launching, DON'T LAUNCH IN FRONT OF THEM PLEASE. There will be children playing in the water, if you can't keep the kite in the air go to the most southern tip of the reserve and stay there. If you get blown down wind and can't be sure to keep the kite in the air release your safety and carry your gear back! Keep to the Southern end of the beach near the point. Stay away from the Northern Half of the beach; WHAT DID I SAY AGAIN??? - KEEP YOUR KITES AWAY FROM THE NORTHERN END OF THE BEACH, THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR US ALL, families and swimmers use this area and in many winds SSW there is a wind shadow. Don't EVER land your kite in the reserve area which means you have flown is behind the trees and across the road, this is forbidden! Don't mess around on the beach flying the kite for no reason! Be aware that if you end up down wind and to the north the kite is going to be headed into a wind shadow behind the trees, it may drop out of the sky and into a family picnic, keep away from there or be prepared to go further down wind and release your safety. Don't drive on the beach. This is a spot where people try to learn, unfourtunately learners start to increase when the wind is lighter and so do the other beach goers. Please keep away from them! Learners also seem to want to use the reef area, when this gets too low it is actually extremely dangerous for beginners, check the depth of the water before you try to learn on it!

Infos: Legendary surfing spot in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. This is a spot that is more suitable for intermediate wave kiters. The launch is easy when getting out only the shore-break has to be overcome. Watch out for shallow spots when in the break and don't ride downwind into the bay to far as the wind becomes offshore there. Be aware that there is no rescue. Watch out for surfers.
