Pengoes - Penguin Island, Australia Pengoes features a fun, ledgey reef break with both right and left waves, ideal for intermediate surfers. The spot works best at mid to high tide and can handle swells up to 2 meters, though it is most consistent when other locations are flat. The bottom consists of sharp coral and rocks, so caution is advised. Accessing Pengoes requires a short walk (5-15 minutes) from the parking area at Safety Bay. The atmosphere is generally quiet, making it a nice escape from crowded Perth beaches, but be mindful of localism and potential hazards like urchins and rocks. The A-frame peak can lead to crowding, so it's best to come in smaller groups. When conditions are right, this spot can deliver enjoyable rides, especially during rising tides. Additionally, the surrounding marine reserve offers opportunities for swimming and snorkeling when the surf is down.
