Description
Matarangi - New Zealand
Matarangi features a left-breaking sandbar wave over a sandy bottom, offering fast and ordinary power. The spot is best surfed during mid to high tide with a rising tide, particularly when the swell is coming from the northwest and the wind from the south or southeast.
This hidden gem is located at the end of the beach, accessible via a short 5-15 minute walk through the pines. Surfers can enjoy a relatively empty lineup during the week, with only a few surfers on weekends. However, caution is advised due to potential rips and undertow, as well as the presence of sharks. It's recommended to surf only when the tide is low and rising to avoid being sucked into the channel.
