Surf Johanna

Johanna - Cape Otway Johanna is a beach break featuring both right and left waves, with a sandy bottom interspersed with rock. The spot is known for its powerful and fast waves, often reaching heights of 1.5 to 2 meters when conditions are flat elsewhere, making it a reliable choice for experienced surfers. Access is easy, with less than a 5-minute walk from parking. Located on the western side of Cape Otway, Johanna picks up significant swell, making it a prime surf destination when nearby areas are flat. The beach can become crowded during summer, attracting surfers from Torquay. With a mix of sand and uneven reef, the wave conditions can change rapidly, presenting a challenge for intermediate surfers. Rips, undertow, and the presence of sharks are notable dangers. For those interested in camping, a decent campsite is available right behind the beach, and Johanna serves as a backup location for the Bells competition.
