Gray Whale Cove features a powerful beach break with both right and left waves, breaking over a sandy bottom. The spot is known for its fast and powerful waves, making it suitable for experienced surfers. It works at all tides and is best with swell from the Northwest, West, or Southwest, complemented by favorable winds from the Southeast, East, or Northeast.
Located on Highway 1 between Linda Mar and Montara, access involves a 15-30 minute walk down stairs from the parking area. This secluded spot is often empty, providing a tranquil surfing experience without the hassle of crowded lineups. Surfers can enjoy the unique opportunity to share the waters with gray whales during spring. However, caution is advised due to potential dangers such as rips, undertow, and the presence of sharks. Note that Gray Whale Cove is a nudist beach, which may not be suitable for everyone.
