Description
Fort Bay - Saint Barthélemy
Fort Bay features a right-breaking reef wave characterized by its hollow, fast, and powerful nature. The wave forms over a sharp coral bottom, with swells originating from deep water hitting a shallow shelf at 1 meter. It is accessible via a short 5-15 minute walk after parking at the end of a dirt road.
This surf spot is known for its emptiness, making it ideal for solo surfers, though caution is advised due to the presence of tiger sharks and other hazards like urchins and rips. Fort Bay works well at all tides, with optimal conditions arising from north, south, east, and northeast winds, and swells coming from the northwest, west, and southwest. The wave's extreme speed and depth can lead to thrilling barrel rides, but surfers should be mindful of the sharp rocks and potential dangers in the area.
