Surf Chocks

Chocks - Hilo, Hawaii Chocks features a left-breaking reef wave over sharp coral, ideal for experienced surfers. The spot rarely breaks, but when it does, it requires a swell of over 1.5 meters to deliver fun, fast rides. Access involves a short 5-15 minute walk from the parking area, with public access available. This unique surf spot offers a refreshing alternative to the more crowded Honolii and Richardsons. Located about 6.4 kilometers from Hilo, surfers should be cautious of urchins and rips while paddling out. The best conditions occur at mid to high tide, with favorable swell coming from the North, Northwest, and Northeast. Expect an empty lineup during the week, with only a few surfers on weekends. Be mindful of the shallow waters and sharp rocks when navigating the area.
