Butterbox - Long Reef Headland Butterbox features powerful left-breaking waves over a rocky reef bottom, with sharp coral and sand. The spot is best surfed at low to mid tide during falling tide conditions, particularly when swells come from the south or southeast. It can hold waves up to 3 meters, making it a thrilling experience for confident surfers. Located near Long Reef headland, Butterbox is known for its unique rock ledge that offers fun sections, especially in winter with moderate swells. While the crowd is generally sparse during the week, weekends may see a few more surfers. The wave action can be fickle, so checking the surf report is advisable. Be cautious of rips, urchins, and the occasional shark, and avoid surfing alone during low light. Access involves a 15-30 minute walk from the Long Reef golf course, ensuring a bit of adventure before hitting the waves.
