Description
Boiler - Pea Island, North Carolina
Boiler features a powerful sandbar wave that breaks both right and left over a sandy bottom. The spot is characterized by multiple bars, with waves reaching a minimum height of 2.4 meters (8 feet) on big days. The water depth typically ranges from 3 to 4.5 meters (10 to 15 feet), making it essential to be cautious of the submerged wreck of the ship "Oriental."
Located on Pea Island, access is straightforward with a short walk over the dunes from a small parking area near the Pea Island Ranger Station. The spot is best with northeast swells and works at all tides, particularly during rising tide conditions. The atmosphere is relaxed, ideal for exploration, and crowds are generally sparse during the week. However, be cautious of local wildlife, including sharks near the wreck, and prepare for mosquitoes in the area. Finding the best breaking bar may require some scouting, as currents can shift surfers out of position.
