Description
Agate Beach - Newport, Oregon
Agate Beach features a sandbar wave that breaks both right and left over a sandy bottom with rocks. The spot is known for its powerful and fun waves, best surfed during low tide with a falling tide movement. Access is public, requiring a short walk (5-15 minutes) from parking along Highway 101.
Located near Newport, Agate Beach offers whimsical sandbars and a scenic view of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. The beach is mostly sheltered from north winds, making it a favorable spot for surfers. While it can get crowded on weekends, especially when the swell is small, there’s plenty of space to spread out, particularly towards Moolack Beach. The rip current near the head can assist with paddling out, providing a fun experience for surfers. However, be cautious of rips, undertow, rocks, and the occasional shark.
