The Zwölferkopf in the Achensee region near Pertisau is a popular paragliding site, especially for thermal soaring. The launch site is conveniently located right next to the gondola mountain station, making it easily accessible. This area is ideal for those looking to learn about ridge soaring, valley wind systems, and thermal conversions. While it offers beautiful flying conditions, it can also be tricky due to the strong valley winds in the afternoon.
The site is well-suited for extended soaring flights. In the late afternoon, when the valley wind hits the mountain, the skies fill with paragliders. This location is also used for safety training launches. However, be aware that unauthorized landings in the fields of Achenkirchen farmers are prohibited and will be reported.
The region offers a unique interplay between the lake and the mountains, providing stunning panoramic views. The flying season is year-round without any restrictions. There is a start/landing fee of 4 Euros.

The take-off areas are within a 5-10 minute walking distance from the gondola station. The best wind indicator is the Achensee itself; just watch the waves. The gondola from Pertisau takes about 10 minutes to reach the launch site.
Weather hazards include the 'Bayrischer Wind' from Bavaria, which can become too strong for safe flying. It's advisable to wait until the wind settles down in the evening.
The landing area can be tricky due to varying wind directions indicated by multiple windsocks. This is due to different valley wind systems, including the Bavarian wind from the north and air drawn from the west by the Karwendel mountains, often causing turbulence at the landing site. In strong north wind conditions, it's better to fly towards Maurach for landing.
