Description
Weissenstein, located in the Jura region of Switzerland, is one of the most renowned paragliding sites in the area. Its central location makes it an extremely popular starting point for cross-country flights. The take-off site is situated at an altitude of 1260 meters, just below the Kurhaus Weissenstein.
The launch area is in a protected zone and is suitable for southeast to southwest wind conditions. However, it can be very dangerous during Bise (northeast wind) and west winds. Access to the launch site is strictly via the marked path through the chapel; shortcuts through the meadow are not allowed. Visiting pilots are encouraged to pay a voluntary launch fee to help cover maintenance and lease costs. Please deposit the fee in the box at the entrance to the launch site.
Be cautious of strong winds, as they can create turbulence near the launch area. If flying is not possible, the nearby inns are a great place to visit. After take-off, steer your glider to the left of the antenna. There is no air route behind the fore-mountain, and rotor turbulence can occur.
The launch site is a moderately steep meadow, and starting in crosswinds is not recommended. The site offers a stunning view over the Swiss Plateau and the Alps.

The hike from Oberdorf to the launch site takes about 5 minutes. Ensure you use the marked path. The launch site is not available for use by schools.
