Description
At an altitude of 1635 meters with a height difference of 865 meters, this paragliding site is highly frequented and offers excellent cross-country flying opportunities. However, be aware that it often becomes turbulent in the afternoons. The Kircherl launch site is generally better in the afternoon. Note that the Alm launch site is closed from May 15 to August 31 after 1:00 PM. Please use the Kircherl launch site during this period.

Wallberg Alm is suitable for wind directions from West/Southwest to North. It features a flat alpine meadow where you can launch towards the Northwest at the lower level and towards the Southwest at the upper edge. While the launch site may seem harmless at first glance, it becomes extremely challenging with stronger winds, thermals, and wind directions from Northeast to East. In particular, strong East winds make the launch conditions unsafe. It is highly recommended to read the safety instructions thoroughly.
Please always be mindful of pedestrians and hikers on the path below the launch area. Only launch when no one is in your takeoff path. If someone is in the way, kindly ask them to move. During peak season, a launch director is present on weekends and holidays to assist with any questions.
A windsock is installed, but it may not accurately reflect the wind conditions during Northeast to East winds due to the lee effect. Always check the windsocks at the summit.
### Hazards at Hintermaueralm Launch Site
The Hintermaueralm launch site appears straightforward under light wind and thermal conditions. However, with good thermals in spring and summer, launching can become very demanding once thermals and valley winds pick up. The ridge descending from the West summit causes significant turbulence during thermals and stronger winds from North to Northwest. With Northeast to East winds, the Alm launch site is in the lee of the summit, causing the windsock to potentially show light winds from West to Northwest while strong East winds blow at the summit. If the summit windsocks indicate Northeast to East winds, do not launch from Hintermaueralm; switch to the Kircherl launch site instead. Always maintain an active flying style and keep the brakes in hand for the first 100 to 200 meters of flight.
A significant issue is the footpath below the launch site. Only launch when no pedestrians are in the area. If hikers obstruct your launch, politely ask them to move. Aggressive behavior can lead to conflicts or accidents. Pilots endangering pedestrians or colliding with them face an immediate flight ban of at least one month.
Hang glider launches are not permitted at the Alm launch site due to terrain approval and associated hazards.
