Description
This paragliding site in Graubünden, Switzerland, offers a mix of easy to moderately challenging flights, primarily used in winter. The site is known for its long glides and some cross-country potential.
The launch area is located near the ski slope, just below the mountain station, and is not fenced off. In winter, you can start westwards, even with skis or snowboards. The launch direction (155° - 200°) is considered moderately difficult due to the steep slope, while the direction (245° - 300°) is easier and often the only viable option in winter unless the wind conditions are perfect.
Possible flight routes include:
- South to the valley station Vella
- South to the intermediate station Triel (1600m)
- North to Obersaxen
- North into the Rhine Valley (Rueun)
For landing, you can aim for any mowed meadow. In winter, a slope landing directly above the valley station is possible, or you can use the car park if it's free. In challenging wind conditions, landing south of the village or southwest near the sports facilities is feasible.
Starting in a southern direction requires precision due to the steep drop-off. If necessary, you can descend slightly to the west (towards Stein) or east (towards Piz Mundaun) for an easier launch.
This site is beautiful for both cross-country and leisure flights, as well as hiking. However, be aware that it is located in the danger zone LS-D10 Tavanas (Brigels: Flab shooting area). Always check KOSIF for updates.
Walk and Fly options include various tours starting from Hitzeggen to Piz Mundaun or Stein, making it a fantastic hiking area in autumn.
