Description
At an altitude of 2368 meters, this paragliding site is rarely used but offers numerous natural launch options. It is suitable for both leisure flights and cross-country (XC) flying.
Access to the site can be achieved via cable car, car, or by foot. The site is suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders and is an approved training ground. It is classified as easy, making it suitable for beginners.
The launch area is located immediately next to the chairlift, which operates only in winter. During summer, you can reach the launch site from the gondola lift's mountain station in about 30 minutes via a path. Alternatively, you can start from lower down at Alpeggele South or East. The launch area is an alpine meadow interspersed with stones.
If the mountain lift is not in operation, you can drive your private car only up to Thurntaler Rast. From there, you can use the shuttle service provided by the flight school or a taxi to reach Gadein. When launching towards the east, maintain minimum distances from the chairlift.
This long-established flying area offers many enticing routes. Situated in the middle of the long-distance route from South Tyrol to Carinthia through the Puster and Drau valleys, Thurntaler serves as a stopover. The Hochpustertal is the 'highway' heading east or west towards Lienz or Toblach. To the south, the Lesachtal beckons.
