Takatsuka Flight Area in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, offers a serene paragliding experience along a 30km coastal ridge. The site is known for its good coastal soaring conditions and features a large ramp for paragliders. Although it is regularly used, there are only a few flight logs available.
For those interested in visiting, the site is accessible by car via Route 1 to Route 42, heading towards Irako for about 10km. The launch area, named JPM Takatsuka Takeoff, faces south and is situated on a steep slope with an altitude of 70 meters above sea level. The launch deck covers an area of 1,500 square meters.
Flight conditions at Takatsuka include thermal soaring and ridge soaring, with a 50% chance of straight flights to the landing zone. The landing zone is flat, measuring 100m x 300m, and is located at sea level. Be cautious of surfers and spectators on the beach when landing.
The site is open from April to October and is suitable for intermediate pilots (ParaPro stage 4) and above. Visitors are required to pay a fee of JY900 per day. The Hamanako Paraglider School operates at this site, offering bilingual instruction in Japanese and English. Access from the landing zone to the launch area involves a 10-minute walk followed by a 3-minute car ride, totaling 13 minutes. Cross-country flights are accepted at this site. Nearby, you can find shops selling fresh local produce such as farm-fresh melons and seafood.
