Paragliding Spierberg

This paragliding site is situated at an elevation of 1520 meters and is considered of medium difficulty. It is not frequently used but offers a beautiful area for hike & fly. Soaring is possible, and some cross-country (XC) flights can be achieved. The take-off direction ranges from 112.5° to 157.5°. There is no cable car available, so you will need to hike for approximately 20 minutes. To reach the take-off point, drive to Finsterwald and then walk eastward through the forest until you reach a large clearing. From there, head left up to the launch site, which is a gently to moderately sloping meadow in a large forest clearing above the cross. This site often has excellent spring thermals starting early in the morning, around 10:00 AM. You will typically launch with a light side tailwind. It is recommended to lay out your wing as close to the forest edge as possible and aim to fly to the right of the cross, where the 'standard thermal' can be found. This thermal is usually identifiable by a single cumulus cloud high above. Be cautious of strong valley winds, as they can cause wind shear.
