Conditions Optimales
Description
Located in the Sintra region of Portugal, this paragliding site offers a unique experience with its frequent local soaring conditions, particularly with winds from the NNW to NW. Occasionally, cross-country flights are possible when the wind shifts to WNW. The site features two takeoff points situated next to each other, and toplanding is possible, although it can be challenging due to the limited space.
The site has recorded flights of up to 18.6 km and 9.9 km, showcasing its potential for extended flights under the right conditions. The Praia Grande area, situated about 25 km from Lisbon, is known for its consistent northwest winds and scenic cliffside takeoffs. The cliff has a good lift starting from 17 km/h wind speeds, making it suitable for calm coastal flights.
Access to the takeoff points can be achieved either by climbing stairs from the beach or by driving up a road from Praia Grande, turning right after the ascent, and following a dirt road for about 400 meters. The takeoff area is fenced and not visible from the road, requiring a short walk through dense vegetation.
The beach serves as a large landing area, but note that landing restrictions apply during the peak summer months of July, August, and September. The site is known for its calm flights, but pilots should remain cautious as overconfidence can lead to accidents.
