Description
The Seetalhorn launch site, situated at an elevation of 2866 meters, is accessible via a 12-minute ride on the 6-seater gondola from Grächen. The gondola station is conveniently located next to a mountain restaurant. The launch area is equipped with a large windsock and wind indicators.
During the summer, the terrain is quite rocky, requiring good glider handling skills. The "West" launch site is flat for laying out the glider but quickly transitions to a steep incline. There is enough space for two gliders to be laid out simultaneously. In winter, the launch site is always accessible and maintained by piste machines. When west winds are forecasted, expect headwinds; otherwise, zero-wind launches are common. The proximity to the restaurant and gondola station means there are always spectators around. This launch site is suitable for beginners and less experienced pilots in winter.
Grächen, located on a sunny terrace at 1620 meters above sea level, is more than just a valley town. The gondola takes you almost to the summit, allowing you to enjoy a relaxed flight over the valley.
The flight offers a height difference of around 1300 meters, providing opportunities for long glides, including routes to Hannigalp with views of the Matterhorn. However, the rocky and loose ground makes the launch sites challenging and not ideal for beginners.
Landing zones include Grächen at 1260 meters above sea level and St. Nicklaus.
