Description
At an altitude of 1832 meters, this paragliding site near Sedrun is relatively easy to access but not frequently used. The site offers some potential for cross-country flights.
To reach the take-off point, start from Sedrun Bahnhof and follow the road to the former Cungieri chairlift station. The walk takes about 45 minutes. The launch area is a field-like slope where you can lay out your wing on the path below the former station and take off towards the valley.
Sedrun is located in the upper part of the Surselva region, near the source of the Rhine. It's a cozy, authentic place, ideal for family vacations, away from the hustle and bustle.
The flying area is part of the Flims-Oberalp route, but local thermal flights and simple glides back to Sedrun or a visit to Disentis are also enjoyable. There are various launch options around Sedrun, some requiring a short hike, such as the launch sites in Disentis, Alp Nalps, and Alp Tgom, which is now accessible by cable car.
In winter, you can also start from Cuolm Val, accessible by chairlift from Milez. The short train ride from Sedrun to Milez is included in the ticket. The terrain edge into the Rhine Valley can be thermally active even in winter.
An excursion to Andermatt is also fun, with flights from Nätschen above Andermatt to the village or the base station of Gemsstock, followed by a flight from Gemsstock back towards Oberalppass.
For the Cungieri launch, take off below the former chairlift station and typically fly along the edge of the valley towards Sedrun. Cuolm da Vi is another option, but you need to hike up.
Be cautious of power and telephone lines in the valley. While launching in light Föhn conditions is possible, it can become very turbulent, especially above the railway line. Avoid landing in tall grass; there are plenty of footpaths available.
From December 15 to April 30, access and flying in certain areas (Tgom, Cuolm da Vi) are strictly prohibited to protect wildlife. Soaring is possible with a light south wind along the ridge above the railway line (Oberalpbahn), and thermal flights to Disentis are also feasible.
