Description
The Schwyberg paragliding site in Switzerland offers a medium-easy flying experience with an altitude of 1610-1620 meters and a height difference of 550 meters. This site is regularly used and suitable for cross-country flights in both launch directions. It is accessible year-round, either by a 70-minute hike from Schwarzsee or via a chairlift, which is currently out of service.
The large grassy launch area is located next to the mountain station. The site is known for its scenic beauty, nestled in the pre-alpine landscape of the Fribourg Alps, surrounded by peaks such as Les Reccardets, Spitzfluh, and Kaiseregg.
Flights from Schwyberg are generally straightforward for experienced pilots. The site is free from fog due to its moderate altitude, making visibility excellent. However, pilots should be cautious of the strong valley winds near the landing area by the lake, ensuring they approach high enough and avoid flying south over the trees.
The site is also popular for training, with schools like Starter Plus Bern providing expert guidance. Soaring conditions are favorable, especially with Bise winds, and thermals typically develop in the afternoon.
