Description
In the well-known ski area, paragliding is also possible. The easiest spot is Schönhalde on Flumser Kleinberg. It features a very simple launch site and a spacious landing area, allowing for relaxed paragliding. Schönhalde is ideal in moderate Bise winds; when other flying areas become turbulent, it often remains calmer here.
The launch site is a moderately steep alpine meadow where two to three gliders can be laid out side by side.
Transportation is convenient with a Postauto from Flums Bahnhof towards Kleinberg to the Schönhalde cable car valley station, followed by a cable car ride to Restaurant Schönhalde. From there, it's about a 10-minute walk to the launch site.
The launch window is oriented to the northeast and is of medium difficulty. The altitude is 1475 meters, and there is a cable car available. Coordinates: 9.33628484, 47.06133544.
From Flums Bahnhof to Saxli Post (route Flums-Flumserberg-Portels-Flums), it's a two-minute walk to the Schönhalde valley station, then take the cable car to Berghotel Schönhalde (CHF 11 for a single ride or CHF 28 for a day pass). The launch site is a moderately steep meadow.
The area is quite well-known and tranquil, situated between Flumserberg and Pizol. From Saxli above Flums, a small gondola takes you directly to Berghotel Schönhalden, a romantic 100-year-old wooden house with a restaurant and 32 guest rooms. From there, it's a 10-minute walk to the launch site, past the inn and up the footpath to the left.
The panorama is beautiful, but flights are generally short without any special features. The area is ideal for training due to the significant altitude difference, allowing for easy practice. In suitable weather, soaring is possible, and occasionally, small cross-country flights can be achieved.
In the Walensee area, strong thunderstorms can occur. If a thunderstorm is brewing over the hills on the opposite side of the valley, it's wiser to avoid launching and take the cable car back down.
There is a high-voltage power line in the northeastern part of the landing area.
