Description
Pedra da Baleia in São Domingos do Prata, MG, Brazil, offers a unique paragliding experience. The take-off altitude is 577 meters (1892.56 feet) with a vertical drop of 381 meters (1249.68 feet). The site is accessible via a fairly good road, approximately 8 to 10 kilometers (5 to 6.5 miles) long, taking about 30 minutes from the city center.
The dirt take-off ramp allows for simultaneous take-offs of up to three paragliders. The landing area is very spacious and located right below the ramp, with the possibility of landing within the city as well. This site is exclusively used by paraglider pilots.
The best season to fly here is from September to December, offering excellent thermals and cross-country flight opportunities. However, pilots should be cautious of rotor thermal take-offs and the predominant tailwind from the north, which requires careful attention during take-off.
For accommodation, Pousada Silvia Maia is a recommended option, located at R. João Fernandes de Castro, 282, Jardim Horizonte. You can contact them at (31) 3856-1881.
