Description
Located in the Haute-Savoie department of France, the Salève mountain is a popular paragliding destination due to its proximity to Geneva, Switzerland. The mountain offers excellent thermal soaring conditions, making it suitable for cross-country flights. The takeoff altitude is 1082 meters, with landing options at Pont de Zone (725 meters) and Collonges sous Salève (500 meters).
Takeoff points include:
- **Téléphérique**: Situated next to the upper station of the cable car, this takeoff has a short grassy area and is oriented from North to Northeast.
- **Table d'Orientation**: Located near a large TV/Radio antenna, this takeoff is a 15-minute hike from the cable car station or accessible by car. It features a short synthetic surface and is oriented from North to Northwest.
Flight conditions are favorable from 1 PM until evening, particularly in the northern sector. However, pilots should be cautious of the cable car wires and tree lines on the left, as well as the wind gradient and thermal surprises. The wind venturi effect at the Monnetier pass (right of the takeoff) can also pose challenges.
The maximum authorized altitude is 1700 meters above sea level due to the nearby Geneva airport's TMA flight zone. It is crucial to adhere to these altitude restrictions to avoid airspace violations.

Access to the site is possible by road from Annemasse via Monnetier-Mornex or from Collonges sous Salève via La Croisette. Parking is available in the bend, and the takeoff is a short walk from there. Alternatively, you can take the cable car, with the takeoff point located right next to the arrival station.
The Salève offers stunning views over Geneva, Lake Geneva, the Jura mountains, the Pre-Alps, and the Mont-Blanc massif, making it a scenic and thrilling paragliding location.
