Description
Ripley's is a well-known paragliding and hang gliding site located in the Okanagan Valley, South Central British Columbia, Canada. The site is situated northwest of Oliver, accessible via the Oliver to Cawston back road.
Launch Details:
- Elevation: 3080' ASL
- GPS Coordinates: N 49 15 05.5 W 119 36 45.6
- Type: Mountain launch with a good ramp or clean grassy slope
- Direction: NE
- Suitable for: Paragliding (PG) and Hang Gliding (HG)
- Conditions: Ideal for morning flights with house thermals right in front of the launch area
Landing Zone (LZ):
- Elevation: 1500' ASL
- GPS Coordinates: N 49 15 26.3 W 119 35 55.7
- Description: 3-1 glide out front, land near the road on the western half of the field, away from horses or cattle. Do not land in the Burrowing Owl Reserve.
- Location: Large scrub field 7 km north of the Fairview-Cawston Rd on White Lake Road leading to the Radio Telescope facility. Park alongside the main road and avoid driving onto the LZ.
Flying Conditions:
- Soaring and thermalling are common, with some cross-country (XC) potential, especially towards Ooyoos.
- Best flown in the morning and during NE winds.
- Flying season: Spring, Summer, and Fall are favorable, while Winter is less suitable.
- Vehicle requirements: 2WD is sufficient, but 4WD is recommended for the last 100 meters.

- Class E Airspace above 700' AGL
- Restricted area: CYR 115 WHITE LAKE RADIO TELESCOPE OBSERVATORY. Do not fly below 1500' AGL over the facility.
- Contact local pilots before flying, especially if you wish to use the lower launch site.
