The take-off area is a moderately steep, grassy hill situated right next to the mountain station at an altitude of 2313 meters. This site is occasionally used and offers some cross-country (XC) flying potential with multiple launch options.
The area is versatile, catering to both thermal and cross-country flights. Whether you're a professional, a beginner, or someone returning to the sport, you'll find something to enjoy here. The region around Leukerbad is generally free from high-altitude winds, making it a relatively calm flying zone.
A common route is the trip to Furkapass, especially recommended from spring to summer for cross-country flights. Soaring is also quite rewarding here, with the wind picking up early in the day over Rinderhütte.
However, be cautious of the valley wind, which can become quite strong around midday, especially with a north wind, leading to turbulence and rotor effects.
To reach the take-off point, take the gondola from Leukerbad to Rinderhütte and then walk for about 2 minutes. The launch site faces west and is of medium difficulty.
