Description
This paragliding site, located in the Arth/Küssnacht/Weggis region of Switzerland, offers a medium-difficult flying experience at an altitude of 1565 meters. It is a popular spot for soaring and leisure flights, with some potential for cross-country (XC) flying.
The site record for the Arth/Küssnacht/Weggis region is 27.9 km, while the nearby Rigi region has a site record of 7.0 km.
Access to the launch site can be achieved in several ways:
- From Weggis, take the cable car to Kaltbad, followed by a 20-minute walk.
- From Vitznau, take the cogwheel train to Kaltbad, then walk for 20 minutes.
- Alternatively, take the cogwheel train from Vitznau to Staffelhöhe and walk west along the ridge for 5 minutes.
- From Goldau, take the cogwheel train to Station Staffel and walk for 10 minutes.
The launch site is located 50 meters west of the cross on the ridge. It is suitable for all flyable weather conditions except for the Bise wind, in which case Scheidegg is recommended. Soaring is possible along the Küssnachter side of the Rigi during northwest wind conditions. Thermic flying is feasible even in winter above the Chänzeli viewpoint.
In summer, evening thermals can be enjoyed on sunny days until dusk over the Nagelfluh slopes on the northwest side of the Rigi. Launching is done towards the north in summer and towards the south on the large, flat Edelweissmatte in winter.
The launch site specifics are as follows:
