Description
The Rauenstein flying site in Schalkau, Germany, is a well-regarded location among paragliding enthusiasts in South Thuringia. It features two launch sites and a practice slope. The highest launch site is situated at approximately 640 meters above sea level, just above the popular Triniushütte restaurant, which boasts the best view in South Thuringia. This launch site is accessible only on foot from Triniushütte and requires a start from a narrow clearing, making it quite challenging for beginners.
The Triniushütte is easily accessible by car. The southeast-facing clearing offers excellent thermal conditions, making it a great spot for soaring. Additionally, the west-facing slope, located slightly lower, also has significant potential, although both sites are relatively demanding for takeoff.
The southwest-facing practice slope is ideal for training, featuring a large landing field. Since 2008, the practice slope has been extended directly below the parking area, providing more space for beginners to practice their first flights.
